SPAR KZN (Distribution Centre) is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Junior Buyer to join their dynamic team. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To build the key skills required to successfully plan and manage a sub-category including supplier negotiation, retailer engagement and promotional strategies. To develop a comprehensive knowledge of procurement systems and processes as well as overall category strategies and stock management plans. Provide support to all buying and category management activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProfessional Learning and Development
Proactively participate in and manage the learning process and timetable
Prepare and present on work assignments for each development milestone
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the success factors, timelines and priorities for the whole procurement and merchandising process
Develop and demonstrate a sound knowledge of both current and future procurement, pricing and contracting systems and processes
Develop key skills to negotiate product price and manage supplier performance
Develop appropriate customer skills to effectively support retailer profitability and DC sales
Seek opportunities to develop knowledge and skill across all aspects of category management, buying and stock optimisation
Seek feedback on progress and level of understanding and performance
Gain the knowledge and experience to be able to develop a sub-category strategy and promotional plan that will facilitate both sales and GP growth for that sub category within a 12 – 18 month period.
Key foundational starting responsibilities will include:Pricing and Master-data
Update all Category Manager authorised price changes, deals and discounts on system, as agreed between Category Manager and Supplier, to ensure orders are placed with accurate prices.
Assist Category Manager with the preparation, submission to supplier, follow -up, and capture on system of all deal sheets according to agreed timelines.
Updating” Drop-shipment” Folder with Cycle deals as negotiated by Category Manager.
Maintain Category Manager approved item master-data changes (description, pack size, etc.) on system
Provide Category Manager with Administrative Support for the activation of new items:
• CATMAN notification• Extranet activation• Update of Store Allocation• Committee Meeting Preparation and Communication
Check and tag all master data and price changes for release, daily.
Maintain SPAR Brand and Brand Leader master report
General & Administrative Support
To keep master supplier files up to date and action any filing that might be required by predefined process and procedures or Category Manager.
Assist with the timeous resolution of supplier invoice queries and drop-shipment claims.
Assist Category Manager with Qlickview reporting, and DC and Retail Gross Profit Reports
Write up all claims for tallies (bill backs), and recoveries and update summary schedules for accounts as per cut off dates.
Act as relief, in Category Manager absence, and support Marketing Team on special projects (e.g. Trade and Road Shows, etc.)
Desired Experience & Qualification
Tertiary qualification: Degree in Commerce, Finance, Supply Chain, Retail or Economics
Numerical and Analytical competence
