The programme is open to individuals who meet the following criteria:
Must be a South African citizen
Must be between the ages of 18 and 35
Must have a Grade 12 certificate with at least 50% in English, Mathematics, and Physical Science
Must not have a previous qualification in nursing
Must be willing to commit to a 12-month programme
Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
Must be able to work in a team environment
The programme is divided into three phases. The first phase is the theoretical component, which is conducted at a MediClinic campus. This phase covers the basic principles of nursing, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nursing ethics, and patient care. Participants will also receive training in computer literacy and communication skills.
The second phase is the clinical component, which takes place at a MediClinic hospital. Participants will work under the supervision of a registered nurse and will be required to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the theoretical component. They will be exposed to various areas of nursing, such as medical, surgical, and paediatric wards, as well as the theatre and emergency units.
The third phase is the workplace component, where participants will be placed in a MediClinic hospital to gain practical experience. They will be allocated a mentor who will guide them through their workplace experience and ensure that they are meeting the required competencies. This phase is an opportunity for participants to apply their skills and knowledge in a real-world setting and to gain valuable work experience.
Upon completion of the programme, participants will receive a Further Education and Training Certificate in Nursing, which will enable them to register as an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary (ENA) with the South African Nursing Council. This qualification will open up opportunities for employment within the healthcare industry.
